Breast Augmentation, more commonly called breast enlargement is thought to be only for people that want larger breasts. But there are many reasons for this breast procedure.
Some want to increase the size of their breasts or replace breast volume that was lost during pregnancy, weight loss or aging.
Some want to increase fullness or projection of their breasts in order to enhance contour or the breast size.
Some want to improve the balance of their figure and get better symmetry if they feel their breasts are disproportionate in size or shape.
Breast Augmentation is performed via the Facile Technique, bladeless technology which utilizes a laser to make the incision, instead of a scalpel. This is a safer, more effective option which reduces anesthesia time, recovery time and produces a less noticeable scar.
There are several options that you will need to consider when preparing for your breast augmentation, including incision location, type and size of implant. Dr. Freedland and his staff will assist you with these decisions and guide you through the process.
The Incision – Historically, breast implants were placed over the chest muscle. More recent research has shown that breasts appear more natural when implants are placed under the chest muscle. The incision location that is FDA approved and therefore safest, is beneath the breast within the crease. An incision through the belly button, aka transumbilical breast augmentation or T.U.B.A, is not FDA approved and is associated with more applications.
Types of Implants – There are two types of implants to choose from, saline or silicone. It is important to note that all implants have an outer shell made of silicone. Silicone was deemed unsafe by the FDA in the 1980s and taken off the market. A new line of FDA approved silicone gel implants came out in 2006. Since then, there have been no reports of safety concerns.
Size of Implants – The size you choose is based on your personal anatomy and desired outcome. At your initial consultation, Dr. Freedland will recommend a range of sizes based on your individual measurements. You will return to the office for an implant fitting to help determine the best size and type of implant for you.
So, whether the reason is to restore previous fullness or to enhance your existing breast volume, breast enhancement will be tailored to meet your needs. Schedule an appointment to discuss your options today!
